“Jazz saxophonist Mike Casey, from CT, took to the saxophone like a fish to water from the moment he first picked up the instrument. Honing his musical skills has taken center stage for him for the past 4 years as a student of the Greater Hartford Academy for the Arts where he has studied with some of CT’s best jazz talent (Paul Brown, Doug Maher, Bob DePalma, Kris Allen, Ken Fischer and more). The Academy Big Band for which Mike played lead alto sax won first place at the Invitation only Charles Mingus High School Jazz Festival held at the Manhattan School Of Music in NYC, a festival that attracts entrants from across the country. Shortly thereafter, this same Big Band brought home a 1st place award from the Berklee College of Music’s High School Jazz Festival, the largest high school jazz festival in the nation. The Big Band was featured on NBC30 highlighting recent wins at these national jazz competitions. This year, as part of the top jazz ensemble at the Academy, Mike garnered an 'Outstanding Soloist' award at the Charles Mingus High School Jazz Festival. Additionally, both the Academy combo and Big Band won 2nd place at the 2011 Berklee College of Music High School Jazz Festival. As a student of jazz, Mike is proficient on tenor saxophone as well as alto saxophone, his primary instrument. Mike has played at local venues across Connecticut as well as the Hard Rock Cafe in Boston and will be attending the Hartt School of Music (University of Hartford) for Jazz Performance. He is joined by guitarist Atticus Kelly (fellow classmate in the Academy combo who will also be attending the Hartt School Of Music next year), Alex Tremblay (current student in the Hartt School's acclaimed jazz program), and Mike Camacho (CMEA All-State drummer from Norwalk, will be attending SUNY Purchase for jazz performance in the fall.)." We hope to see you there!
