Mandell JCC and Area Synagogues Present Zimriyah Greater Hartford Jewish Choral Festival, Sunday December 11, 2011

The Mandell JCC, in harmony with local synagogue choirs and Jewish singers will present the first-ever community-wide Zimriyah - Greater Hartford Jewish Choral Festival on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at The Emanuel Synagogue, 160 Mohegan Drive, West Hartford, CT. The all-day event will culminate with a 7:00 pm concert open to the public.

The Zimriyah (song festival in Hebrew) includes day-long music workshops led by Cantor Erik Contzius of Temple Israel of New Rochelle, New York and Greater Hartford cantors, a kosher bistro dinner for participants, and an evening choral concert with all the attending choirs performing together.  Special guest choirs include Mak’hela: The Jewish Chorus of Western Massachusetts and HaZamir Hartford, a chapter of HaZamir, The International Jewish High School Choir.

Following 1:30 p.m. registration, the workshops will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. and will include: Who Wrote That? - a look at Jewish composers led by Cantor Sanford Cohn of The Emanuel Synagogue; Connect the Dots: Basic Music Reading, led by Cantor Anita Schubert of Beth Sholom B’nai Israel, Choral Music – Hot Off the Press,  led by Cantor Erik Contzius; and The Alexander Singing Technique, led by Alex Farkas. A session with Laura Deutsch celebrating the art of the late singer/composer Debbie Friedman will also be featured

Tickets to Zimriyah are available in three separate packages: Workshops/Dinner/Concert Package - $28 per person and includes workshops, rehearsal, dinner, and concert participation. Concert Participant Package - $18 per person and includes rehearsal, dinner, and concert participation.
