New Britain Youth Theater to Perform ' I Know I Saw Gypsie's'

New Britain Youth Theater will perform its first NBYT Teen Company production, I KNOW I SAW GYPSIES, on July 29 and 30, 2011 in the Recital Hall of Trinity-on-Main Performance Center in downtown New Britain. The play consists of several short pieces written by high school playwrights and adapted by Tom Erhard. It deals with subjects such as lack of popularity, prejudice, bullying, first love, family relationships, and other teen issues. Several of the pieces are comical; many are touching and serious; and all of them are powerful. The title comes from a line in the script, which is a mixture of dialogue and poetic monologues. The production is simply staged with six young actors by NBYT Executive Artistic Director David Sousa. “This is a great first production for the NBYT Teen Company,” said Executive Producing Director Darren Farrington, “because  it focuses on the voices of young adults—just like we want to do with the Teen Company itself.”I KNOW I SAW GYPSIES will be performed in the intimate and air-conditioned recital hall of Trinity-on-Main Performance Center in New Britain. Entrance to the recital hall is located at 19 Chestnut Street. Performances are Friday, July 29, and Saturday, July 30 at 8:00 p.m. Ticket prices for all ages are only $5. Parents of young children are cautioned that racial and homophobic epithets are used in the script. Seating is limited, but available tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets may be reserved by calling New Britain Youth Theater at 860-515-8115.

The NBYT Teen Company is a program of New Britain Youth Theater in which teens become involved in choosing, producing and promoting their own theater. The program offers leadership opportunities and a chance for teens to do the shows they want to do, all while under the guidance of NBYT directors.
