Exhibit Showcases Talented Student Artists

The Next Emerging Talent exhibition opened Sunday at Canton Gallery on the Green.

The Gallery on the Green hosted an opening reception for the Next Emerging Talent exhibition on Sunday afternoon. The exhibit features artwork by high school seniors from eleven schools in the region. The pieces reflect a variety of art styles, from illustration and photography to 3-dimensional sculpture.

During the opening reception, several students received awards. The artwork was judged by representatives from Northwest Community College and Hartford Art School, as well as sponsors of the event.

is the home of the Canton Artists Guild, which has been supporting regional artists for over 50 years. According to Curator Shirley Mae Neu, the board reviews potential member portfolios once a month, and high school students may become members for free with 12 hours of volunteer work.

The Next Emerging Talent exhibition runs through March 11, 2012. Schools represented include Avon High School, Avon Old Farms School, Canton High School, Ethel Walker School, Farmington High School, Lewis Mills High School, Miss Porter's School, Northwest Catholic, Northwest Region 7, Simsbury High School and St. Paul Catholic. 

The Gallery is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
