Umbrellas for Peace at University of Hartford

Project symbolizes protection and strength for women.

The project of the Alumnae Council for Women and Women for Change is a global effort involving painting and decorating umbrellas. As the council describes it, "The individual will artistically design umbrellas that represent their personal values of world peace."

"Umbrellas repersent protection," said Mala Matacin of the University of Hartford, who started this event two years ago.

On Tuesday, a march will be held around campus with all the umbrellas, and they will be hung in the student union until graduation.
