Nonprofit Organizations Will Convene to Explore Best Practices

Nonprofit organization leaders from throughout the region will meet to explore industry best practices and hear the latest innovations and impacts in areas including health care reform, succession planning, financial transparency, and technology at the third annual Best Practices for Nonprofits Conference, organized by The Alliance for Nonprofit Growth and Opportunity (TANGO) to be held on April 24 at the Clarion Hotel in Bristol.

TANGO is a community of more than 750 nonprofit organizations in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island that receives best-in-class services and educational opportunities from a partnership of top-tier professional service firms. TANGO has grown by 40 percent in just the past year.  Members are predominantly in Connecticut, with numbers increasing strongly in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Conference attendees include CEO’s, CFO’s, COO’s, Executive Directors, Business Managers, HR managers and marketing professionals and board members from nonprofit organizations across the region.  Additional information and conference registration is available at the TANGO website, www.TANGOalliance.org.

Highlighting the conference will be Mark Scheinberg, President of Goodwin College. Scheinberg has led Goodwin since its founding in 1999. His passion for linking education with workforce needs has shaped the College’s mission. Goodwin, in East Hartford, is a nonprofit organization that has received accreditation from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).  Current enrollment exceeds 3,000 students.

The day’s program will be split into two "tracks" - the morning will focus on Business/HR/Finance, while the afternoon will focus on marketing, leadership and development.  Presenting organizations include Schuster Driscoll, CohnReznick, Event Resources, IT Direct, Executive Service Corps of New England, Sandler Training & The Entrepreneur Circle, and 501(c) Agencies Trust. A new “TANGO Everyday Heroes” program will be launched at the conference.

“Nonprofit organizations are facing virtually unprecedented challenges today, due to fiscal limitations and an increasing need for services,” said Bob Margolis, Chief Operating Officer of TANGO. “There is significant interest in the expertise that will be offered by leaders in an array of fields targeted specifically to the nonprofit community.”

TANGO’s thoroughly vetted partners – now numbering nearly 50 - provide services that range from employee benefits and retirement planning to marketing, IT, fundraising and board consulting, as well as employment law, accounting, and banking, and are committed to working with the nonprofit sector. By supporting the work of nonprofits, the TANGO partners allow them to focus more time and energy on realizing their specific missions.

“As business customers are increasingly interested in a company’s commitment to giving back to the community, TANGO partners have demonstrated their willingness to extend themselves to nonprofit organizations.  The relationships that develop between business partners and nonprofit organizations are mutually supportive, and advance their respective goals and objectives,” said Sarah Morin, Director of Membership Engagement at TANGO.

TANGO provides member nonprofit organizations in-person human resources forums and a webinar series hosted by TANGO partners, as well as a wide range of workshops throughout the year. Workshop topics have included market branding, cloud computing and results-based accountability. The workshops are provided at no charge to member organizations.

TANGO has earned the Association Achievement Award by the Connecticut Society of Association Executives (CSAE) for successful implementation of Best Practices for Nonprofits.  Conference registration is available online at, www.TANGOalliance.org
