Having Fun and Giving Hope on April 14th

A family oriented program with food, music, crafts, silent auction and much more. Last year there were over 500 participants who attended.

On April 14 in West Hartford there will be a 3rd annual Connecticut Walks for Haiti event. The event is a family oriented program with food, music, crafts, silent auction and much more.

Last year there were over 500 participants who attended. Fox CT’s Meteorologist Joe Furey is this years emcee.

The program, located at , at 47 Pleasant St. near West Hartford Center, will be:

  • 10:30-12:00: Free registration
  • 10:30-2:00: Silent auction
  • 11:00-2:30: Continuous entertainment, food, crafts
  • 12:00-2:00: 2.5 mile scenic walk around West Hartford Center and Blue Back Square

Music starts at the church with the Steel Drum Band live at the Church. When the walk kicks off at Blue Back Square, Conard High School's Mollydooker will have live music. Other music available provided by the Cappella group is called "Notes Over Storrs."  

The Silent Auction has many items including Red Sox ticket package, 4 reserved seat tickets to the Rockcats, ESPN autographed banner, Family 4 pack for Warner Theatre production in Torrington, two tickets to CT Forum at the Bushnell, 1 year low-usage membership along with one hour personal training at Cornerstone Aquatics Center, Hair cut at Chameleon Salon, Gift certificate from Victorian Day Spa, 14-Dance lessons package from Van Dance Studios, and $50 gift certificate to Stop & Shop. There are also autographed copies of books by journalist Bill Moyers and Haitian writer Paul Farmer, sculptures both stone and boat, and baskets with items like toys, garden materials, assorted foods, and hand quilted bags.

Connecticut Walks for Haiti (CWFH) was founded by a coalition of volunteers and organizations working in Haiti, to raise money for ongoing projects in Haiti. CWFH is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization.

Besides having fun another goal of the Walk is to raise awareness of the needs of the people of Haiti. Projects funded last year included:

  • Annual nurse salary for mobile clinic.
  • Sponsor six malnourished children.
  • Cistern water filtration system.
  • 35 high school scholarships
  • Nutrition program for 25 families & food for 232 children.
