Great Community Programs This Weekend at Beth El Temple

Please join Beth El Temple, 2626 Albany Avenue, in a weekend of wonderful programs that are open to the community.

Professor Yehezkel Landau, the Director of the interfaith training program for Jews, Christians and Muslims called “Building Abrahamic Partnerships” at the Hartford Seminary, leads Part II of the Interfaith Dialogue on Saturday morning December 17th.  In this session Professor Landau will address how Jews can fruitfully engage Christians and Muslims.  How can controversial issues be broached without undermining trust and good will?  Professor Landau will discuss the needed skills and sensitivities with examples of initiatives that have worked.  Services again begin at 9:30 a.m. and Professor Landau will be speaking from the bima.  Ample time for discussion will follow after Kiddush.

On Sunday December 18th the program begins with breakfast and an insight into the mystery of the Jews of Cuba.  Many Jews escaped to Cuba during the 20th century to avoid persecution in Europe.  What happened to those Jews?  What is life like today for the Jews that are still living there?  Nancy Nahmias, a Beth El Temple member, traveled to Cuba earlier this year on a mission to learn about the Jews of Cuba and what can be done to help them.  Please join Nancy and Beth El Sisterhood and Men’s Club as they co-sponsor this wonderful breakfast program.  The cost is $7 for non- members, no charge for members.  Please RSVP to Sheila Diamond at 860-673-6885/860-965-6564 or stdiamond@comcast.net.
