West Hartford's Blue Elephant Trail Will Never Forget Sohors Tek

It's been a year since the former manager of a popular Avon Thai restaurant died of pancreatic cancer. 

From Sept. 26 to 28, The Elephant Trail and sister West Hartford restaurant, The Blue Elephant Trail, will be raising money for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in Sohors Tek's memory. 

The nationwide organization is a "network of people dedicated to working together to advance research, support patients and create hope for those affected by pancreatic cancer," according to a press release from the restaurants. 

“Of 100 people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year, only 6 will be alive in 5 years," Soden Tek, her brother and the executive chef for the restaurants, said in a statement. "We want to do our part in raising awareness and supporting the community of patients and families.”

Both restaurants will be donating 25 percent of the proceeds on those days from sales of Sohors' favorite menu items, according to a press release.

"She always had a sweet tooth, and so the drinks on Sohors' favorite menu are Thai iced tea, Bluefeld reisling (West Hartford only), and the Blue Elephant cocktail (West Hartford only)," the restaurants said in a press release. "In addition, her favorite dessert of mango sticky rice will also be included, as well as two of her favorite dinners - chili salmon and loc lac."

The Elephant Trail in Avon, the first restaurant Sohors opened with her brother, Soden, has just moved into the space where Connecticut Home Interiors used to be on Route 44. The move was "a dream Sohors and Soden had together, and one she sadly never got to see happen," the press release stated. 

The restaurants invite the public to join them in "celebrating her life and vision, and her role as a fixture in our community."

“We hope to honor Sohors’ memory by eating her favorite foods this month,” Soden Tek said. “Her dream was always to repay this Connecticut community with our food and friendship, in the same way our family was welcomed and nurtured here. Although she is gone, we hope our friends will join us and share her favorite foods. In a way, it helps her live on.”

The restaurants hope the contribution "will help advance research, and most importantly provide comfort to patients and their families in times of need," according to the press release. 

The Elephant Trail is located at 85 East Main St. in Avon and The Blue Elephant Trail is at 7 South Main St. in West Hartford.
