Brewery Interested in Proposed UConn Hartford Site

Written by Patch Field Editor Elyssa Millspaugh

Facing a projected $25 million in renovations to its West Hartford campus, UConn announced in November 2012 plans to move the branch to downtown Hartford.

One of the proposed sites for the new campus is the Hartford Times building, and while that's where Front Street developer HB Nitkin Group wants UConn to make its move, that proposal now has competition, the Hartford Courant reports.

The Thomas Hooker Brewing Co. also has its sights set on the building, according to the Courant.

Either move would result in renovations of the landmark building, which has stood vacant for some time, according to the Courant.

Talks of a UConn move were first raised more than a decade ago during Gov. John Rowland's administration, Patch previously reported. The campus currently serves approximately 2,100 students on the 58-acre West Hartford site.
