New Yoga Program Embraces Moms and Babies in Strollers

Lucy Activewear to host 'Stroller Yoga' class on Aug. 21 in Blue Back Square.

Calling all moms and their babies! Join a free-flowing mix of stretching, singing, sign language and breathing in a “Stroller Yoga” class to be held on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 9:15-10:30 a.m. at Lucy Activewear in Blue Back Square.

Led by Jennifer Magnano, director of Mamoga Wellness and Mama Yogi in Colchester, the goal of the class is to create unity between the mind and the body through breathing, explained Magnano, who also serves clients in West Hartford, Colchester, Glastonbury and Manchester.

The free demo class will be held in the courtyard at Lucy, 84 Memorial Road. In the event of inclement weather, the class will be held inside the store. It will be geared toward women and children, including mothers, moms-to-be and caregivers and is targeted for babies and siblings and young children — in or out of the stroller.

“Stroller Yoga takes Mamoga off the mat and into the real world,” said Magnano, in a press release for the class. “We work with your natural abilities and strengths to provide body-minded fitness in a fun, welcoming and enlightening routine that is sure to have you and your little ones yearn for more.”

Magnano will offer “Stroller Yoga” classes beginning Sept. 19 at Elmwood Community Center. She was looking for a place to demonstrate her program and its routine. Much to her delight, Lucy Activewear offered its store, said Magnano.

Stroller Yoga is a new, creative way to connect with and to enjoy the benefits of the spiritual, mental and physical discipline, and it joins some other creative offerings. For the past two summers, huge crowds have shown up for "Asana Yoga" in the middle of LaSalle Road in West Hartford Center. In July, the Yoga Center of Collinsville and Collinsville Canoe and Kayak sponsored “,” in the midst of the Farmington River.

“We are trying to humanize the practice of yoga,” explained Magnano. “Everybody can do it — ages 5, 50 or 90. It is truly for everyone and can make such a difference. People who do yoga are changed by it.”
