Connecticut Gas Prices Down Slightly in Past Week

The pain at the pump subsides a little. Will it last?

In just a week, the average price for a gallon of gas in Connecticut has slipped from $4.15 to $4.12. According to the price tracking website Gasbuddy.com, the national average fell only a half a cent in that time period to $3.85.

"Average gasoline prices nationally continue to slowly drop," said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan in a statement. "I'll go on the record and say that come Wednesday, I expect the national average in the U.S. will actually be lower than it was on the same day in 2011. Perhaps looking at the big picture with prices having failed to reach new records so far in 2012, we can restore some gas-sanity in this country. Prices go up and down every year, every season, regardless of whose name is on the ballot.”

The Washington Post wrote about being getting used to the idea of $4 gas.

“I think that there is a little bit of a new mindset that has happened with our customer over the last five years,” Charles Holley, Wal-Mart’s chief financial officer, was quoted as saying at a conference last month. “I think $3, $3.30 whatever it is would have been a disaster, as you know, four or five years ago. Today, I think the customer has probably reset expectations and their budgets around that higher gas price.”
