Connecticut-Made Moonshine a Hit, Off to the GRAMMYs

Onyx Moonshine, which is made in Manchester, has been named the exclusive spirit for the 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards official gift bags.

First it was , now locally produced Onyx Moonshine has been selected as the exclusive spirit for the 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards official gift bags.

The founders of the company, Adam von Gootkin and Peter Kowalczyk, announced the news in a press release Wednesday afternoon.

“We've only been open a few months and it's amazing to see how many people are excited to try our moonshine,” von Gootkin said in a statement, noting that a bottle of Onyx Moonshine will be given to performers and presenters on the night of the cermony. “We're extremely proud that a Connecticut product has been selected and that we'll have an opportunity to show America what authentic moonshine with an ultra premium twist tastes like.”

Onyx Moonshine is distilled and bottled in small batches . The co-founders say it is made from a secret recipe of mixed grains and freshly drawn Connecticut spring water and is the first moonshine to be legally made in Connecticut since Prohibition.

“Many people don't know that Connecticut and New England have a rich history of active moonshiners and speakeasies operating during Prohibition,” Kowalczyk said in a statement. “Connecticut did not want Prohibition. This is a story that has never been told up north, and that's what we're trying to do by bringing moonshine back."

The 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards will be held on Feb. 12, 2012, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and will be broadcast on CBS at 8 p.m. EST.
