Kickoff Breakfast For American Cancer Society

Breast cancer survivors and their loved ones, along with local business leaders, will unite at an inspirational kickoff breakfast for American Cancer Society "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Hartford County."    Approximately 200 local residents, including breast cancer survivors, families, caregivers, employers, and friends are coming together to learn more about this year’s "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk." Emcee and speakers include: Bob Maxon (NBC Connecticut) & Mike Stacy (WRCH) Denise Miele, ACS Volunteer, Newington Laurie Gonzalez, Survivor, Plainville Skip Burritt, ACS CAN Volunteer, Bristol Dr. Christina Stevenson, Breast Surgeon, UConn Health Center Judi Theriault, HR Manager, Verizon Wireless Shawn O’Brien, MSABC Pacesetter, West Hartford. This event will take place, Tuesday, August 23, 2011, the one- hour program starts promptly at 8:00 a.m. at Hartford Plaza Hotel, (formally known as the Sheraton Hotel) East Hartford, CT.  Making Strides is an inspiring event unites the entire community to honor and celebrate breast cancer survivors, and supports the American Cancer Society’s mission to fight breast cancer on all fronts and save lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or finding it early; helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking research and by fighting back by encouraging lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight. Since it’s inception in 1993, nearly seven million walkers nationwide have raised more than $400 million through Making Strides.  In 2010 alone, more than 800,000 walkers across the country collected more than $60 million to save lives and create a world with less breast cancer and more birthdays.
