Farewell, Fribbles: Post Your Memories of Friendly's on Patch

Will you be sad to see it go, or did it outstay its welcome in West Hartford Center?

Some of the items on menu have been around for decades — Jim Dandy, anyone? — and others, such as the Friend-z, are fairly new. What will you miss most when the 76-year-old restaurant chain closes its store in West Hartford Center?

Did you celebrate your birthday at Friendly's or make a tradition out of going there after school concerts? Did you love the burgers and hate the fries, or vice-versa?

Do you remember when the restaurant first opened in West Hartford Center, way before Ben & Jerry's moved in down the street.

We invite you to share your memories and comments about the loss of a longtime Center business on Patch.

My principal memories of this Friendly's entail waiting. And waiting. And waiting. And waiting. And waiting.

Fond memories of getting Fribbles after playing tennis in HS in "60's. But have not been in one in years (except for occasional ice cream cone) - unhealthy food and absolutely terrible service.

As I said yesterday in your other article on this subject... This Friendly's was the worst. We live in WH and head over the mountain to go to the Friendly's on 44 in Avon. Too small so a long wait for a table, too many kids there hanging out being loud and rude, not tipping the servers and sneaking out the back door on a dine-and-dash. It was a no-brainer to close this store.

Friendly's was notorious for terrible service and a long wait for your food. Having said that, I will really miss the Jr. Chocolate Fribble!!
