Frozen Yogurt Coming to the Elmwood Section of West Hartford

New franchise business will bring more frozen treats to West Hartford.

With the imminent arrival of another frozen yogurt spot in town, West Hartford may soon add "frozen yogurt capital" to its moniker as "burger capital of Connecticut."

West Hartford Center already has two yogurt shop – with Sweet Frog opening last week to join the already popular Pinkberry.

Now, Elmwood will be home to the newest spot for frozen yogurt when owner Armando Roman opens Yogurt City in the Stop & Shop plaza on Newington Road.

Yogurt City, a franchise self-serve yogurt company, already has several locations in Connecticut as well in the Springfield, MA area. Roman, a UMass-Amherst graduate and former manager at Target in the Holyoke Mall who is currently a government employee, had been looking for franchise opportunities for a while when he found the Yogurt City in West Springfield.

The business impressed Roman with it's atmosphere and success, and as he transitions to self-employment, Roman decided to also branch out and find a good location for his new endeavor.

"I chose Elmwood because it's an up-and-coming area and a great community," Roman said. He thought the area would be perfect for an up-and-coming franchise.

Yogurt City, Roman said, is a strong brand, and he thinks he can bring strong ownership and commitment to the community to go along with it. He plans to personally move from Springfield to West Hartford, too.

"I would definitely love to partner with community groups and schools," he said.

Roman said he expects to have the final inspection of the premises next week, and then he hopes to have the store open a week or so after that.

Sliders Grill & Bar is also slated to open in the same shopping center this April.
