Seniors Job Bank Is Signing Up Service Providers

Applications are being accepted in the West Hartford office for individuals age 50 and up who are looking for part-time work.

The doors to the Seniors Job Bank in Room 216 of West Hartford Town Hall are open once again, and the organization has started accepting applications from service providers in preparation for full-scale operations beginning next month.

In January, the announcement that the Seniors Job Bank, which first opened in 1974 but ceased operations in 2008, was returning to the area  was met with great enthusiasm by both potential providers as well as those hoping to hire those providers.

Even before the organization began to publicize its opening, West Hartford resident Richard Moffitt was ready to sign up – becoming the first official service provider. According to a news release from the Seniors Job Bank, "Richard has the interest, qualifications and experience in completing "Home Inspections" for area residents. He is also committed to helping others in the area, so he has added his name to the Seniors Job Bank."

Consultant Bill Stachelek, who previously worked with the Seniors Job Bank, said that plans are falling into place and they have been meeting with the local Senior Centers as they prepare for full-scale operations in early May. Once the database of service providers is well-established, he said, potential employers will be able to hire those providers for jobs such as painting, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing, as well as landscaping, driving, and office work.

The Seniors Job Bank will serve West Hartford, as well as Farmington Valley towns and other local communities such as Newington and Bloomfield.

According to the release, seniors (anyone over age 50) "are encouraged to sign up with SJB as a service provider if they have a talent or experience in something that they want to do and/or want to help others."

Service provider applications will be available at the West Hartford Senior Centers, West Hartford Town Hall (Leisure Services office), Jewish Community Center or on the Seniors Job Bank website.
