West Hartford Business Buzz: Crown Market, Margaritas and a Floral Fundraiser

The Feb. 23 edition of Business Buzz, a weekly round-up of business news in West Hartford.

Welcome to this week’s Business Buzz!

I’m feeling particularly excited about this (apologies to the snow bunnies though). Looks like the Sunday-into-Monday storm isn’t going to produce too much snow!

According to the National Weather Service, new snow accumulation of less than half an inch will fall and Monday will be sunny with a high near 34.

Saying good-bye to Crown Market

It’s been an emotional week in West Hartford, ever since residents found out about Crown Market closing after 74 years in business.

A very floral fundraiser

Pond House Cafe is hosting a Food & Flowers class, with a portion of the proceeds going toward a participating garden club.

Sandra Lamos, owner of A Special Place Floral Design Studio, and Louis Lista, owner of the Pond House Cafe, will demonstrate how to creatively use flowers and food for table-scapes and parties.

Cost to attend is $45 per person. Two sessions will take place on Wednesday, March 19. Visit the Pond Valley Cafe events page for more info or to purchase tickets.

Welcoming a new business

Brookdale Therapy Suite’s Chatfield grand opening will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at One Chatfield Drive, West Hartford.

The ribbon cutting will be at 5 p.m. and champagne, punch, finger food and desserts will be served. Visit the West Hartford Chamber of Commerce event listing for more information.

Save the date for “Sleeping Beauty”

The Ballet Theatre Company’s presentation of “Sleeping Beauty” will take place on May 3. Stay connected with the company via the Ballet Theatre Company Facebook page.

National Margarita Day

Well, I missed it. National Margarita Day was Saturday, Feb. 22, but the West Hartford Patch Facebook timeline was flooded with margarita pics from local businesses! This recipe came from Hartford County’s Onyx Spirits Company - Connecticut Made Liquors Facebook page:

Onyx/RIPE-a-Rita

  • 1 part Onyx Moonshine
  • 2 parts Margarita Mix (They recommended RIPE Craft Bar Juice margarita mix)
  • Fresh Lime
  • Sea Salt

Optional: Cut a wedge of fresh lime, coat the rim of your margarita glass, and dip in sea salt.

Fill a shaker halfway with ice. Add Onyx and Ripe and shake vigorously for five seconds. Pour into glass full of ice and garnish with slice of fresh lime.

Have a great week, everyone!
