Turn Your Face Purple, Help Fight Cancer

The Relay for Life of West Hartford urged its Facebook followers to turn their Facebook profile pictures purple on Tuesday, Feb. 4 — World Cancer Day.

“Chevrolet will contribute $1 to the American Cancer Society for every purple profile, up to $1 million,” according to the Relay for Life of West Hartford Facebook page. Visit Purple Your Profile to learn more.

A Family Affair

Have you met  Jules Bonee at Max’s Oyster Bar yet? She was just 4 years old when her mother Dawn started working there. She works there too and Max’s gave her a shout-out on Facebook!

Networking

If you’d like to learn more about networking, check out this workshop by Chip Janiszewski, a networking specialist, trainer, business consultant and speaker. He’s hosting the workshop from 7:45 to 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at Atria Hamilton Heights, 1 Hamilton Heights Drive., West Hartford.

Cost to attend is $10 for West Hartford Chamber of Commerce members and $15 for non-members. Visit the West Hartford Chamber of Commerce website for more information on registration.

Chocolate Fest & Barbershop Quartet

If you’re a chocolate fan, this event is for you! It promises samples of chocolate, crafts for kids and if I’m not mistaken, the picture attached to post about the event is that of chocolate-covered bacon.

If you’re still not sold, this might sway you — it’s free to attend and there’s a barbershop quartet performing songs! The Chocolate Fest is from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at Whole Foods Market Bishop’s Corner, 340 N. Main St., West Hartford. Visit the event post for more info.

Speaking of Food…

The Taste of Elmwood is nearly here! The event features 10 local culinary businesses who are bringing samples for you to try.

Check out this list of culinary creators: Avery's Soda, Beachland Tavern, The Corner Pug, Cora Cora, Fernwood Restaurant, Hall's Market, Pepe’s Pizzeria of West Hartford, Sliders Grill & Bar, Tapas Mediterranean Bar & Grille and Two Pour Guys Bartending & Catering Services.

Time & Date: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6

Location: Saint Brigid School, 100 Mayflower St., West Hartford

Cost to attend is $25 per person and includes admission, food, and non-alcoholic drinks. A cash bar is available.

The event, hosted by Saint Brigid School and West Hartford Magazine, raises funds for the Elmwood Business Association and Saint Brigid School. Tickets can be purchased here.

“Hey Mom & Dad, I Made You Dinner”

Your kids could be saying that very sentence after taking one of Pond House Café’s cooking classes for children! The next one is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 1555 Asylum Ave., West Hartford.

The class is for children ages 10 and older and costs $40. They’ll learn how to make Ramen noodle mash-up, chicken tenders and more. Check out the Pond Cafe website for more info!
