West Hartford Business Buzz July 28: Openings, Closings and Other News

A round-up of West Hartford business news.

People in West Hartford love to be "in the know" about happenings in town, especially the openings — and closings — of local businesses. We hear things all the time, and some of them turn into big stories. But sometimes we don't have enough news to write an entire story, even though the information is definitely newsworthy.

Every Sunday we'll highlight the business stories you may have missed during the past week, and give you the scoop on the other news you may not have heard about. And if you have tips about businesses opening or closing, please include them in the comments or send an email to ronni.newton@patch.com.

  • Original Tomato Pie!! Is your mouth watering yet? The date is getting closer and closer to the opening of Pepe's Pizza in West Hartford (1148 New Britain Ave., next to the Puppy Center, that condensed its space just for Pepe's). A sign is now up over the door, and they are hiring! Click here for job information.
  • It falls into the category of "business" because many people got onto this list because of their business success, plus it's the Hartford "Business" Journal's list. There were seven West Hartford people on this year's "40 Under Forty" list, including our own Mayor Scott Slifka who made it just months before his 40th birthday!
  • Big Y is "Rockin' and Roastin'" with its new line of coffee by longtime Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer. Patch editors had a good time trying to come up with witty headlines for this story. In addition to the one we used, "Love in a Coffeemaker" was a top choice!
  • Just two days after a presentation to the West Hartford Women in Networking (WWIN) group, there are already five new bloggers on West Hartford Patch! (Yay!) Check out the blogs by Ridgewood Interior ConsultantsSeacret, storyteller Sara deBeer, and more. Blogging is a great way to share your expertise and get your business name out there in cyberspace in a positive way.
  • Do you know you can use Patch if you are looking to hire employees? The YMCA just posted this job opening! We've also got a handy link to Careerbuilder in a tab at the top of the page.
