West Hartford Business Buzz March 10: Openings, Closings and Other News

A round-up of West Hartford business news.

Welcome to this week's installment of West Hartford Business Buzz!

People in West Hartford love to be "in the know" about happenings in town, especially the openings – and closings – of local businesses.

We hear things all the time, and some of them turn into big stories. But sometimes we don't have enough news to write an entire story, even though the information is definitely newsworthy. For a while we ran a "Visions for Vacancies" feature on Sundays, but it was getting to be difficult to find vacancies every week.

Every Sunday we'll highlight the business stories you may have missed during the past week, and give you the scoop on the other news you may not have heard about. And if you have tips about businesses opening or closing, please include them in the comments or send an email to ronni.newton@patch.com.

  • The Elbow Room is still finishing up renovations and the Tap Room sign has not yet replaced the Sidebar sign, but owner Benny Delbon planned a soft reopening Saturday at 4 p.m., after a week of being closed for renovations. Delbon said that he purchased 80-year-old wood to cover the walls, exposed the building's original brick wall, and enclosed the kitchen to give it more of a "pub" feel. Changes have been made to the menu, with lunch offerings available at dinnertime as well, and no item over $19.95. The grand opening will take place in about two weeks, he said, once the signs have been changed and the 50 draft beers are ready to flow.
  • The Beadoir in the Courtyard Shops has added a new "micro business" in the existing store called "The Toy Dog Boutique at the Beadoir." They will offer items for your dogs – focused on small breeds at first – including collars, harnesses, leashes, leash holders, sweaters, and cute biscuit boxes. "Now that we have the two new additions, Tookie and Tiara, all three pups make great models ... With the exit of Reigning Cats & Dogs and the 3 Dog Bakery, we are hoping this fills a much needed void in the Center for we crazy dog lovers in town," said owner Linda Goldberg.
  • Bella Bridesmaid held its official grand opening in Blue Back Square. The boutique focuses on bridesmaid dresses, designed to ensure that the entire bridal party looks its best. According to owner Madison Ross, "Bella Bridesmaid offers a wide range of styles and brands including sought after designers such as Monique Lhuillier, Amsale and Nicole Miller. Currently, the latest trend in bridesmaid dresses includes Chiffon and Mix & Match." Selections for those who have been married previously are also featured.
  • Comina in West Hartford Center has a sign on the door indicating that the store will be closing on March 24. The store has had a West Hartford location for 28 years.
  • Connecticut Cleaners in Bishops Corner has already closed its doors. A Patch reader, who said that the cleaners had been located in West Hartford for 35 years, would love some tips about reasonable spots in the Bishops Corner area to get men's shirts done.
