West Hartford Residents Worry about Impact of ASD Land Sale

The school will be selling off parcels of land to fund its recent construction.

Students may be glad that the American School for the Deaf has constructed a new building on North Main Street, but some of their West Hartford neighbors are concerned about the development's impact on nearby neighborhoods.

According to a letter from West Hartford residents Eric Geigle and Tamika Brierley, ASD plans to sell several parcels of land for more than $1 million to Sard Custom Homes, a fact that the Hartford Courant has confirmed. The school will use the funds for continued construction of the school, the Courant said.

Geigle and Brierley say in the letter, distributed to nearby residents, that Sard Custom Homes plans to build nine to 12 houses on the plots, creating "grave concern about the possible impact on the quality of life and character of our neighborhood as well as on the environment and wildlife."
