West Hartford's Shish Lounge Shutting Down

The popular spot, plagued by problems during its five years in business, is closing May 25. But the owners says they're going out with a bang.

Shish's run in West Hartford has come to an end.

After five years in business, the popular restaurant and lounge is closing on May 25.

It's tenure in West Hartford was highlighted by an often contentious relationship with the town, beginning early on when neighbors complained of noise coming from the Farmington Avenue establishment late at night and, later, with police filing several complaints against it with the state Liquor Control Commission.

Town officials maintained that Shish was really a night club operating under the guise of a restaurant — in violation of zoning regulations. But Shish's owner, Aaron Sarwar, said that was simply not the case.

In the end, Shish will be closing, as part of a stipulated agreement with the town, according to the Hartford Courant

Sarwar announced the news in a video to Shish's more than 7,000 Facebook fans on Wednesday, thanking them for the many fun memories and good times, and encouraging everyone to come in to take advantage of specials they'll be running through their final night on May 24.
