Intensive Education Academy Celebrates Chinese New Year

A group of talented performers from Eastern Cultural Arts, Inc. visited the Intensive Education Academy, a state-approved special education school serving children with special needs in grades K-12 on January 17th.  The performers shared beautiful Chinese cultural dances and songs that welcome and celebrate the Chinese New Year with IEA’s students.

Mrs. Lena Tan educated students on China’s fifty-six different nationality groups.

The Han nationality has over 100 dance styles, each having its own distinguished feature. The students were entranced with the performance as they watched the singers and dancers present some of the unique styles of dance, each with its own beautiful and traditional dress.

"Happy New Spring”, a song and dance performance that welcomes in the new spring and wishes everyone a happy, healthy and lucky New Year, was the favorite dance performed. A joyful, cheerful and bright dance with a lively melody, it featured the traditional Chinese fan, handkerchiefs, and ribbons.

"It was a wonderful way to increase awareness and understanding of the Chinese- American culture" said Coach Manny, an IEA staff member.  “Thank you to the members of the Eastern Cultural Arts, Inc. for entertaining IEA and sharing these Chinese customs with us.”
