Got Health?

Most (not all) folks believe that if they exercise regularly, eat healthy, avoid smoking, and limit their alcohol consumption that this enough to protect your health.  Is that all that needs to be done?

When you build a house, you first start with a blueprint of the structure. Then you prepare the land or clear the property for the structure to be built. Then, as we all know the foundation comes first with all the other elements of the structure to be built on top of the foundation.

A good foundation ensures a stable structure. An un-level foundation, no matter how good the materials used for the frame, walls and even the roof will eventually fail, due to the harsh forces not handled by the foundation.

Q: What is the foundation of our bodies?

A: Adaptability is our bodies foundation for health.

This is easy to understand, our bodies are constantly adapting to our environments. For example, when our boss is unreasonable we control our urge to pop her on the nose, and instead internalize the anger with increased blood pressure, dilated pupils and tightness in our muscles.

Or, your boss gives you a paid three-day weekend at the beach. Your body's tension is released as you press each toe into the warm, soft sand as a gentle wave laps your hand that dangles from your fully reclined beach chair. Your skin bathed in sunshine, which is making Vitamin D in the proper quantities and used in your bones.

Both of these scenarios are a result of your body's ability to adapt to the situation.

Q: What controls adaptability in our bodies?

A: Your nervous system (spinal cord and brain)

Your ability to adapt is crucial for health. What is tragic is that most folks don't know that adaptability is the foundation of health. Mainly because no one ever taught them about the nervous systems primary role of adaptability.  Of course there are limitations to our adaptability and there are also conditions that limits our bodies ability to adapt. There are genetic conditions and there are structural conditions that limit our health potential.

Got health?

As a structural chiropractor, many people ask me what they can do to fortify their health?

I respond by telling our patients to make sure you have no structural displacements that adversely affect your bodies ability to adapt. Then of course, apply all the other materials (exercise, diet, reduce alcohol) in a well conceived blueprint for great health.

Is this a guarantee, it is a guarantee that your body is better when it can fully adapt.

Have a GREAT Day!
