Max Performance Thru Optimum Structure

Max Performance Thru Optimum Structure

Maximum(Max) performance is the goal of any athlete.  From the most intense Crossfit, marathoner, bodybuilder and  5k runner to weekend warriors, performance matters. Folks are always looking to train more efficient, increase gains, optimize recovery and avoid injuries, basically looking for any reasonable edge. This is the reason for products that enhance the training process, allowing you to "embrace the suck" that is necessary for improvement. Products range from sport specific shoes, compression socks and pants to foam rollers and bench press shirts.  Performance diets which has been customized to each specific sport down to the amount of protein in grams and specific supplementation for pre, during and post workout. Along with training cycling for pre season for greatest performance for the season.

Many folks who seriously train basically look to improve in the most common areas, they are:

  1. Sport specific training (training schedule, technique, form, etc.)
  2. Equipment (customized bike, athletic shoes, clothing, etc)
  3. Nutrition(diet on and off-season, pre and post work out, recovery.etc.)
  4. Supplementation(muscle growth, repair and recovery,etc.)
  5. Recovery (self-care, body workers,rest periods, etc.)

What is most overlooked by the majority of folks  who train seriously is Optimum Structure (except by the most elite athletes - pros, Olympians). Optimum structure is the inner frame-work of your body which supports your fascia, muscles, organs and protects your nervous system (brain, spinal cord and nerves). Of course I am referring to your pelvis and spinal column.

As most athletes know, the angles make all the difference, whether you are attempting a clean and jerk  or rounding a curve on your customized bicycle. What I mean is that your structure of your body has normal ranges, just like eye sight and body temperature. What happen when you are outside normal for eyesight, contacts right? Right! What about body temperature when training? Special clothing, fluids including water right? Right! What do you do if your inner frame-work is outside normal range?

Most don't even know how to detect abnormal structure, which is the worst. Having a structural deficiency, not knowing about the impairment and to top it off blaming the abnormality on other factors.

Think of your innerframe work as the foundation and frame of your house. Think of your pelvis as the foundation, does it make sense that the foundation needs to be level? Of course this makes perfect sense, yet this knowledge is underutilized.

Muscles, as we all know move bones and fascia which covers muscle and organs is vital for nutrition. What if your pelvis was unlevel or outside the normal range by just a quarter of an inch, what do you think will happen to the muscles of your pelvis which will attempt to compensate for your deficiency? Would it be reasonable that your spine will shift, the pelvis muscles will not be equal in length (some shorter, some longer) and how will this effect your mechanics of your hip and knee-joint? Will the symmetry of your muscle be normal or abnormal? Many people have one leg or arm stronger than the other, does this sound normal?

What many folks  know is that the body loves to compensate, always trying to work efficiently. This is why body mechanics training is critical in running form, weight training to just plain walking. Many folks have difficulty in the mechanics, because it seems the body is resisting the proper training, which your body  is in deed resisting.

It is resisting for good reason, because of the deficiency in your frame your body has compensated to protect your joints from further damage. This is why your muscle are extremely sore that you need body work, foam rollers, and supplements for joint pain.

Now, body work like massage, stretching and self-care have their necessary and important place and abnormal structure that is not properly addressed will deteriorate the joints of your body no matter what body work or supplement is employed. Think of a frame of a car, if it's bent, no matter how many new tires you put on they will ware out prematurely. Structure always dictates function.

Tell tale signs of a structural condition:

  • Deterioration (Damaged Joints, especially knees, hips and spine)
  • Chronic muscle tightness, no matter how much you stretch or receive body work
  • Abnormal wear patterns on your shoes
  • One side weaker than the other (especially cross fitters, body builders - one arm or leg stronger than the other)

What do you do if you suspect a structural condition?

If you have been thru the common solutions listed above and still have problems, then its more than likely you have a structural condition, which I call a structural shift in your pelvis or spine that is the underlying cause of your secondary conditions. You need to seek out a doctor who is trained in structural correction. Not all body workers (massage, personal trainers, conventional chiropractors, orthopedic or athletic trainers) have been certified in Structural correction of the pelvis and spine.

At Advanced Chiropractic we focus solely on the structural correction of the spine and pelvis and work hand in hand with the more common solutions. In fact, our care enhances the care of most of the common solution practitioners. For the simple reason of restoring proper structure helps with improvement of proper function.
