West Hartford Doctor Reviews:Colic and Breastfeeding Difficulty

Many times, infants have problems with colic and breastfeeding. Traditionally, there is not much that can be done expect wait and see or switch to bottle feeding and still there can be a problem feeding.

What we have found in regards to infants is to check for  Neuro-Spinal Dysfunction or Structural Shifts of the spine, this interferes with pregnancy and birth, specifically comfort of expectant mom, position of the baby, structure of the pelvis, and ability of nerves to regulate normal contractions.

Regarding newborns, the birth process is the number one cause of NSD (Neuro-Spinal Dysfunction )and the secondary conditions include difficulty breastfeeding, colic, reflux, constipation, irritability, delayed development, and weak immune system.

Because of the immature neuromusculoskeletal system, especially in the upper cervical spine(neck), newborns are extremely susceptible to NSD. If left uncorrected, the spine develops in that inappropriate position and leads to a chronic NSD state.

Since children experience a tremendous amount of physical trauma (birth, falling, sports, etc.) it's important to PROTECT the correction you made early on.

As a Doctor of Chiropractic that focuses on a branch of chiropractic called Structural Correction, with additional training in the field of Pediatric Spinal Correction, I field questions from mothers all the time.

The first question is really a statement of, "I never knew you could help with those conditions".  The second question is, "My baby is so small is your care safe"? Because the musculoskeletal system of your infant is still developing the correction used is extremely gentle, most infants do not even wake out of sleep when the correction is given.  The correction force is mere ounces. Think of the weight of a quarter on the back of your hand, it doesn't take much pressure, it's all specificity.

Many people have already done the conventional route in regards to colic and still are having difficulties, if this is your child then checking for Neuro-Spinal Dysfunction is reasonable.

Most Chiropractors are traditional, especially in West Hartford and do not work with pediatrics, nothing wrong with that at all -  they have a different focus. Our focus is structural correction of the spine and the earlier we can detect abnormal structural shift the easier it is to correct the problem.

Have a great weekend.
