West Hartford,CT: How Does Structural Chiropractic Help Patients With Back Pain?

At Advanced Chiropractic,  we do not offer disc decompression, ultrasound, electric stim, or massage. We don't offer these services because we have chosen to focus exclusively on Structural Correction of the spine. We let traditional chiropractor or physical therapists offer those services and we focus on being excellent at Structural Correction of the spine.

Back pain and Structural Shifts of The Spine

There are many causes of back pain, that is why I always recommend a consult first and then a Structural Corrective examination that includes structural corrective radiography's, 3D structural analysis and Digital Photographic Structural Assessment done by the doctor to confirm or rule in or out other causes of back pain. For this example, lets say that the patients back pain was indeed caused by an abnormal structural shift of the spine.  First we must know the normal range for the low back. Normal for the lumbar region or low back is an elliptical curve that measures 30 to 40 degrees and doesn't translate (move forward or back ward) more than 10mm (millimeters). This is normal for the low back area and anyone who knows anatomy knows this to be true.

Indicators of Structural Shift of the low back

Of course the patient will point and tell us about the pain in their low back; "Doc it hurts right here"! And yes we take that into account and just like heart disease which usually doesn't have a symptom (pain) until a major event happens (heart attack) symptoms or pain are the last Secondary Condition to show up and usually the first to go away.  So when the heart pain stops is the heart disease corrected? When the back pain stops is the back all okay now?

That is why we look for objective indicators, which are....

  1. Abnormal shifts (lack of the proper curve)
  2. Degenerated (damaged)vertebrae (spinal bones)
  3. NIS (nerve impingement syndrome)
  4. Degenerated (damaged) Disc
  5. Muscle Tension/spasm

Having one of the above indicators tells me that there is indeed a Primary Structural Condition that needs to be addressed, because Normal Structure is not an option. The more indicators you have the more severe the condition.

What is commonly done for low back pain?

  1. Nothing - hope and wait
  2. OTC over the counter medications
  3. Massage, personal trainers, yoga,Pilates
  4. PT or Traditional Chiropractic
  5. Stronger pain medicine
  6. Injections
  7. Surgery (minor to extensive along with repeat surgeries and hard wear, including nerve simulator)

The above is what is commonly done and I have no doubt that all of those methods have helped relieve low back pain. Many are good folks providing those services. What they do not address is the structure of your spine, many do not even use or know what to look for on an x-ray and how could they, they do not have the training in Structural Correction.

Structural Correction

Our solution is based on normal structure, just like there is a normal range for blood pressure, eye sight and weight - there is a normal range for your spine (low back). Our goal is enhance your spine back into the normal range using our SCI, Structural rehabilitation and complementary recommendations.  When your spine is in its normal range your body can better resists the harsh forces placed on your discs, spinal bones, muscle and ligaments. This gives your body the chance to heal the underlying cause of the structural problem.  This is why our patients do not need to come in forever for the same problem, or have the problem reappear over and over.  We work with out aggressive manipulation and use gentle specific (scientifically researched) corrections with precise yet firm structural rehabilitation to enhance your spine back to the normal range. Along with teaching what you need to do on your own to protect your spinal correction.

Have a great day!
