Daily Five: Join a Chorus, Congratulate Pamela Trotman Reid

Things you should know about West Hartford on Sept. 18, 2012.

Welcome to a new feature on West Hartford Patch. Monday through Friday, we're going to post a quick rundown of what's happening today along with links to events and announcements on our site. We'll also explain how you can use Patch to keep people informed about all the interesting things you do. That's five things a day, five days a week: Daily Five.

1. If you see her around town, say congratulations to the University of Saint Joseph President Pamela Trotman Reid. Reid has been named the 2012 Higher Education Person of the Year by the Northeastern Economic Developers Association (NEDA).

2. Like to sing? The West Hartford Women’s Chorale is holding an open rehearsal for returning members and new singers. Rehearsal is 7-9 p.m. tonight at Bristow Middle School, Highland Avenue, West Hartford.

3. One of our stellar Local Voices contributors, David Ryan Polgar, writes about the Vino and a Show fundraiser, which will be held at Playhouse on Park (244 Park Road, West Hartford) from 6-9 p.m. on Sept. 27. Want to join our peerless group of contributors? Just send an email to Ronni.Newton@patch.com and we'll sign you up!

4. Does your cat use the remote control? Relax in your sink? Literally climb the walls? If it does, we want the photographic evidence. Entries are already coming in for our Crazy Cats contest, which promises to be much more civilized than our Top Dog contest (we learn from our mistakes). Post your photo today.

5. Thought of the day: Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please. — Mark Twain
