MDC Road Construction in West Hartford Halted for Season

Projects on Boulevard and Farmington Ave. are suspended until at least early March.

Due to prolonged winter weather conditions, the Metropolitan District Commission construction projects on both Boulevard and Farmington Ave. have been suspended for the season.

"Work was suspended for the winter as of Feb. 1," said Director of Community Services Rob Rowlson. Equipment is in the process of being removed from the area, he said. The detour on the eastbound side of Boulevard is no longer in place.

Rowlson said that conditions will be re-evaluated at the end of February for the possibility of resuming work in early March.

However, an MDC spokesperson said Tuesday morning that work would not likely resume until the regular construction season beginning April 1.

Rowlson has requested additional resources to be assigned to Farmington Ave., where replacement of Civil War-era water mains has been ongoing for more than a year.

"We need to get that work out of the way so we can put the road back together before the end of the next construction season," Rowlson said. "I'm hoping for extra resources to get that project done and have my fingers crossed," he said.
