MDC's West Hartford Reservoir Re-Opens Wednesday

The Red and Yellow Loop Trails will re-open at the Farmington Ave. Reservoir, but Reservoir #6 will remain closed.

Mountain bikers, runners, and walkers who have been met with closed gates at the entrance to the Metropolitan District (MDC) reservoir on Farmington Ave. ever since the freak October snowstorm brought down a staggering number of trees and limbs will be pleased to know that the property has re-opened for recreational use as of Wednesday.

However, not all areas have been cleared, and the MDC warns the public to obey posted signs advising which areas have been cleared.

In a news release, the MDC indicated that the red and yellow loop trails would be opened to the public effective Wednesday, Nov. 16. Those trails are marked on a map at the information kiosk near the parking area.

The MDC was forced to close the West Hartford Reservoir to the public as they worked to clear damage caused by October's snowstorm. Downed trees and broken limbs blocked many paths, but have now been cleared from the red and yellow trails.

In the release, the MDC indicated that Reservoir #6, which is located off Route 44 (Albany Avenue) on Avon Mountain, will remain closed to the public until further notice. The released stated, "While the MDC regrets any inconvenience, this action is necessary to allow the MDC to complete its clean-up efforts."
