Memorial Day Closings

Monday is Memorial Day, a state and federal holiday. Here's the skinny on what's closed in West Hartford and the region.

But first, a word on what's open — liquor stores!

For the first time since probably any of us can remember, package stores will be open this Memorial Day because the state has repealed the law banning Sunday sales and the sale of alcohol on holidays, and that includes Memorial Day. That means we don't have to rush around on Saturday to stock up on alcohol for our weekend parties because package stores will be open Sunday and Monday. But here is what will be closed for the holiday:

• Federal, state and municipal offices.

• Libraries.

• Banks and credit unions.

• U.S. financial markets.

• Public and private schools.

• Post offices, including all retail services and regular mail delivery, but Express Mail, special deliveries and perishable items will be delivered.

• The Connecticut Lottery Corp. headquarters in Rocky Hill. The website and automated phone system will be available to obtain information. Regularly scheduled lottery drawings will occur.
