Near-Record Heat Expected. How Will You Beat It?

Add your photos to our gallery of ways to cool down when the pools aren't open yet.

With temperatures expected to hit 90 degrees today, parents who aren't getting out of town for spring break might be looking for some ways to cool off the kids.

Here are a few ideas, but please add your own in the comments or post a photo to our gallery.

1) The movies:

is showing the following:

The Three Stooges (PG)
American Reunion (R)
The Wrath of the Titans 3D (PG-13)
Mirror Mirror (PG)
21 Jump Street (R)
The Hunger Games (PG-13)

2) The library:

The is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and the is open from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Bishops Corner branch is closed for renovations.

3) The sprinkler:

Water your lawn and cool off the kids at the same time.

4) The basement:

Basements are always cooler than the rest of the house. Send older kids downstairs with a glass of lemonade and a game of Monopoly. Build a tent fort for younger kids out of couch cushions and old sheets.

5) Visit a museum:

Art museums are often closed on Mondays, but the Connecticut Science Museum in Hartford is open and ready for spring-breakers. It's a tall cool drink of a building and it's air-conditioned, too.
