Ballet Theatre Company, a non-profit organization in West Hartford, established the Children’s Enrichment Program (CEP) in 2002 to further BTC’s commitment to all children in the community by making dance available to children regardless of means. Through partnerships with area child advocacy organizations such as the Hillcrest Area Neighborhood Outreach Center (HANOC) and The Shelter for Women, Gray Lodge, BTC provides studio lessons to children who otherwise might not be able to participate. BTC hosts these classes and dance supplies provided free of cost to participants. Each year BTC offers a special, full-length performance of The Nutcracker for more than 600 children from 20 area child advocacy organizations as well as the Hartford and Bloomfield public schools. This performance is not only a delight for the children, many of whom may have never before experienced a live professional production, but it is also a highlight for the professional and student performers. In addition to seeing a full length ballet, the children have the opportunity to learn more about the world of dance and theater during a question-and-answer and autograph session with the choreographer, production staff, and featured dancers. These experiences can open windows of opportunity, perhaps creating a lifelong love of the arts or even encouraging the next rising star as dancer, musician, choreographer, stage manager, or designer. You've chosen some great area non-profits to highlight. We are very fortunate here in West Hartford to have so many resources at our disposal. I am sure you will focus on other groups as you continue your coverage of our town. Keep it local and keep up the good work!
