Who Is West Hartford's Person of the Year?

TIME magazine named President Obama their person of the year for the second time. Tell us who you think should win from West Hartford!

On Dec. 19, Time magazine named President Obama its Person of the Year, again!

The magazine invited votes on 40 candidates, including the president, Gabby Douglas and Kim Jong Un. Other options included The Mars Rover and the Higgs Boson Particle, Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi, and Apple CEO Tim Cook. But the president took the title again four years after he first won the award as president-elect in 2008.

But who cares about the same-old, same-old? Who is West Hartford’s Person of the Year — the man or woman who, in Timespeak, “most influenced the news this year for better or worse”?

Tell us your pick in the comment section below!

I'm sure there are many people in West Hartford deserving of this award. However I nominate the 3 co-directors of The Miracle League Of Connecticut, Ronit Shoman, Scott Franklin and Mike Michaud. These folks along with many other volunteers worked tirelessly for years to complete this project. Not only did they raise the funds and over see the construction of the first challenger field in all of New England but also raised funds and constructed 3 other baseball and softball fields. Whether it is the kids playing or parents, grandparents and other relatives watching, these fields probably affect most of the families in West Hartford. The commitee took a vacant and very visible piece of land and turned it into a thriving complex for children of ALL abilities. Something all of West Hartford can be proud of. Rick Ross

I vote for my wife, Barbara Lerner. This is not because she is my wife and soul mate but due to her role as Project Marketing manager for Blue Back Square. She works tirelessly, to promote not only Blue Back Square but West Hartford. An example is her almost single-handedly coordinating the Holiday Stroll, an event bringing thousands to the Center and Square. She also brings to West Hartford, "a little Thursday night music" the summer concert series. Barbara has also worked on other events, such as the "Pink Party" and the MAD Walk. Then there's the Wednesday night's "Tastes and Toasts" the summer fundraising for non-profits, coordinated with BBS's restaurants. These are the big ones. There are probably others I'm not recalling. When one looks at West Hartford's person of the year, consider who does things that touch the most residents and benefits the community. My Vote is for Barbara Lerner Hank Lerner
