Meet Tad Bistor: Republican Candidate for West Hartford Town Council

Name:  Tad Bistor

Age:  46

Party, Board Seeking:  Republican, Town Council

Family information:  Single. Youngest of three boys from a working-class family from New York’s lower Hudson Valley. Twelve-year West Hartford resident.

Occupation, if applicable: Family law attorney in solo practice.

Political Experience:  First-time candidate.  Current member, Town’s Advisory Commission for Persons with Disabilities.

Why did you run for office?  With significant development expected in the Park Road, Elmwood, and New Park Avenue neighborhoods, it’s important for those neighborhoods to have a strong voice on the Town Council from someone who actually resides there.

If elected, what would be your primary areas of focus?  The responsible development of our commercial sectors is essential for reducing the tax burden on our residents.  Through effective leadership, I will work to bring new businesses to West Hartford in order to LOWER taxes while INCREASING services.

What do you feel is the biggest issue facing West Hartford today?  The Town’s fiscal health. The current policies of increased property taxes and fewer town services is unsustainable, and is already driving residents from our Town.  In addition, the unfunded pension and health care liabilities for our municipal employees will eventually have a negative impact on the Town’s credit rating. Lastly, the Town has seen a recurring reduction in State and Federal funding and must become more self-sufficient.

What skills do you have that you could bring to the community?  I’m a PROVEN LEADER in numerous organizations who looks at all sides of an issue and chooses the best solution for the circumstances. I’m a CREATIVE THINKER who has perfected my ability to think “outside the box” while finding creative solutions to the complex issues in family cases. I’m an ATTENTIVE LISTENER whose legal training and experience has refined my ability to listen to people to achieve the best results for my clients. I’m a BUSINESS OWNER who understands the unique issues facing businesses and can help West Hartford become more “business friendly.” I’m the ONLY candidate living south of Boulevard and pledge to be an advocate for our Park Road, Elmwood, and New Park Avenue neighborhoods.
