West Hartford Election Day Q&A

A quick look at what you need to know for Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 5, plus what you'll see on the ballot.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 5 and if you're a little fuzzy on the details, Patch is here to help.

In West Hartford, voters will choose a new Town Council and Board of Education.

Here's a quick rundown on the basics:

1. What time can I vote? On Election Day, polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Identification, including a drivers' license, utility bill, paycheck or other ID, is required to vote.

2. Where do I vote?  Visit the Connecticut Secretary of the State website, where you can check registration status and find your polling place. A map is here.

During the last election, the polling places were consolidated from 20 to 9 and while that caused some problems, the election commission has been working to ensure the process runs more smoothly this year. Officials say they're ready.

The new polling places are:

District #1 - King Philip Middle School, 100 King Philip Drive
District #2 - Bristow Middle School, 34 Highland Street
District #3 - West Hartford Town Hall, 50 South Main Street
District #4 - Elmwood Community Center, 1106 New Britain Avenue
District #5 - Wolcott School, 71 Wolcott Road
District #6 - Conard High School, 110 Beechwood Road
District #7 - Sedgwick Middle School, 128 Sedgwick Road
District #8 - Braeburn School, 45 Braeburn Road
District #9 - Hall High School, 975 North Main Street

3. When will we know who won? Unofficial election returns are available after the polls close at 8 p.m. on Election night. Unofficial returns are updated throughout the night as the precincts report in. Keep an eye on Patch for updates.

4. I forgot to register. Can I still vote? The West Hartford Registrars of Voters will provide Election Day Registration at Town Hall in Room 400 during voting hours on Tuesday. Any resident of West Hartford who is not already registered or is registered in one town but wants to change his or her registration because he or she currently resides in another municipality is eligible.
