The New England Underground Film Festival, a celebration of the best of underground cinema, will have its third annual presentation on October 5 at the Wilde Auditorium in the University of Hartford’s Gray Conference Center. The event will be held from 12:00pm to 6:00pm; general admission is $10 and students with school ID can pay $5.
The New England Underground Film Festival will offer a line-up of provocative short films and feature-length productions. Among the highlights in this year’s festival is a rare public screening (courtesy of film historian Ben Model) of the long-lost 1922 animated film Mechanical Doll, produced by the Fleischer Studios and starring the beloved character Koko the Clown.
This year’s festival will also include three films from Connecticut-based directors: Jared Marmitt’s Common Misconception, Kelly DiMauro’s Protector of the Kingdom and Stephen Dest’s My Brother Jack; Kieran Valla, a Connecticut native now based in California, is represented with Hangdog. Massachusetts is also represented in the festival with three films: Luke Bittel and Fred Warren’s Some Assembly Required, Paul Turano’s Not Clear Cut and Michael Legge’s Monochromia.
