Red Sox 2013 World Series Trophy in West Hartford for Anniversary Celebration

Rabbi
Howard Rosenbaum is being honored for over 20 years of devotion, education and
service to Beth El Temple and the Greater Hartford community with a special
lunch program on Sunday February 9 at noon. Rosenbaum is a major Red Sox fan
and Dick Flavin (Fenway Park announcer and poet-laureate), Sam Horn (Red Sox
First Baseman/Designated Hitter 1987-1989), and Wally (the Red Sox mascot) will
personally be delivering their 2013 World Series trophy to Beth El Temple to celebrate
and honor Rosenbaum’s grand slam.

A
graduate of Brandeis University, the University of Pennsylvania graduate school,
the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Wyncote, PA, and certified through
the Jewish Theological Seminary as a day school principal, Rosenbaum arrived in
West Hartford from Metuchen, New Jersey.
He began his position as Education Director at Beth El Temple in August
1994 after working in Levittown, PA and running a religious school in Media,
Pennsylvania.

What
truly makes Rosenbaum a heavy hitter is his passion for working with children.
His experience on staff at Camp Ramah for 14 summers, coupled with staffing the
Gratz College Summer Israel trip for three summers, and serving on the National
Youth Commission of United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism (USCJ), informed
his approach to education and learning. Rosenbaum has earned the reputation of being
an exceptional education director “known throughout the Greater Hartford area
for his innovative and creative family and student programs,” according to
award-winning religious school instructor Anita Levy, who also states that
“[Rosenbaum] is always at the forefront in implementing new initiatives in
Jewish Education. He is responsible for [the Beth El Religious School]
receiving many awards and has made the school the envy of the Hartford area.”

Under
Rosenbaum’s leadership the Beth El Temple religious school has won numerous
family and elementary education awards from USCJ and
innovative program awards from the Commission on Jewish Education of the Jewish
Federation of Greater Hartford.  It is
Rosenbaum’s many home runs with extensive family and experiential education
programs (i.e., a simulated trip to Israel, a visit to Westmoor Park to learn
about and experience Judaism and Nature, and the hands-on exploration of Jewish
art and music from guest artists) that have students and parents raving.

Eight year old third grader Benjamin exclaims, "Beth El is the
best Hebrew school and synagogue I have ever known. The Hebrew school is so
much fun and I learn a lot. I love the teachers and when they tell about Jewish
camps. Anyone who goes to Beth El Religious School is going to have the time of
their life. Rabbi Rosenbaum is the best principal I have ever known, even
though he is a Red Sox fan.”

Parents
Nancy and Dennis Gottfried share, “We've gone the distance for Rabbi Rosenbaum!
Heading from Harwinton to West Hartford two to three times a week is a bit of a
schlep -- but Rabbi Rosenbaum has made it worth every mile travelled. Our
daughter is receiving an outstanding Jewish education under his guidance, both
within the classroom and through the variety of field trips and enrichment
programs at Beth El.”

In
addition to being an avid Boston fan, Rabbi Rosenbaum plans many successful
programs, meals and dinners, knows every student by name, and is known for his
sense of humor, eclectic collection of ties and culinary expertise. All in the
community are invited to join Beth El Temple for a luncheon program in Rosenbaum’s
honor. The cost is $18 per person, $13 per child 12 and under, with a maximum
cost of $54 per household.  Please RSVP
by February 3 to the Temple office at 860-233-9696 or online at www.bethelwesthartford.org.
