Community Bike Ride and Fundraiser for Jewish children with developmental disabilities

The Fifth Annual Tour de Shuls on May 4 is looking for
riders, volunteers and donors to help raise funds to send Jewish children with
developmental disabilities to camp this summer.   The Tour
features a choice of three scenic routes through West Hartford, Simsbury and
Granby that range from 20 to 50 miles.  Synagogues along the way serve as
hospitality and rest stops.

This
year’s Tour also includes a five-mile, teens-only "Color Ride"
through West Hartford.  Participating teen riders will be doused with
various colored powders to mark their progress through town.

Proceeds
from the Tour and Color Ride will benefit the Tikvah program at Camp Ramah, the
Chazak program at Camp Eisner, and the Hand-In-Hand program at Camp Shalom,
each of which offers children with disabilities the full camping experience.
The Tour’s goal is to raise $15,000 for these programs.   All rides
will begin at the Emanuel Synagogue and conclude at the Jewish Federation of
Greater Hartford in West Hartford.

The
Tour and Color Ride will be capped by a Bike Fest for young riders of all
abilities.  Run by JTConnect, BBYO and other teen organizations, the Bike
Fest coincides with the JServe International Day of Teen Service.  The
Bike Fest will include bike-related rides, obstacle courses, races, arts &
crafts projects, as well as safety demonstrations and bicycle
inspections.  Teen volunteers will serve as buddies for any riders requiring
additional assistance.  There will be
music, prizes for bike and helmet decorating, and refreshments, ensuring an
afternoon of family fun. The Bike Fest will be held at the Jewish Federation of
Greater Hartford from 12:30-3:00 p.m.

Tour
de Shuls and Color Ride participants are encouraged to register in
advance.  Riders may register online at www.tourdeshulct.org.  For more information,
