Fiber and Quilt exhibit

Two fiber based exhibits are currently on display in the West Hartford Art Leagues two galleries on Buena Vista Road.

Out of the Loop, an exhibit that showcases out-of-the-ordinary, contemporary fiber works that advance traditional techniques through radically innovative interpretations is now open in the Clubhouse Gallery.

This juried exhibit features work by 25 artists and was juried by Kate Themel. A jurors choice award was given to Harriet Winograd for her three dimensional mixed media piece entitled, The Fabric of her Life.

The Saltbox Gallery has an exhibit of recent work by Kate Themel, an award-winning fabric artist and teacher living in Cheshire, Connecticut.

Over the years, Kate has developed a distinct, painterly style in her compositions but remains linked to the quilting world by her use of simple, traditional materials: cotton fabrics, batting and thread.

Kates unique fiber pieces have been exhibited in art galleries and museums from Boston to Botswana. Her work has been juried into international fiber art exhibitions such as Quilt National, Art Quilt Elements and the Kagoshima Quilt Show in Japan.

Kate recently earned the Young Emerging Artist Award and the People's Choice Award for her work in Quilt National ’11.
