Library Chess Programs Instructor and Bugbee Elementary School’s Chess Program Instructor and Chess Team Coach, Alexander Lumelsky, is running a Saturday chess program for children from different chess groups, clubs and instruction programs to come and play together at one location.
The Kids’ Saturday Chess Club and Instruction will take place in Suite 131 at the Farmington Exchange across from the UConn Hospital campus and will offer practice play and chess lessons for the remaining four Saturdays in December (8, 15, 22 and 29). The program will run from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM for children grades K and up to come any time during those hours and practice their skills.
The club and instruction offers hours of play, three classes on chess subject matter per session, simultaneous play against the instructor, game analysis, beginners’ instruction and supervised play. These options are provided at a fee and the club offers a beginners’ admission, for an hour of instruction and supervised play, a 90 minute admission for practice play, and a five hour all day pass for those that wish to get the most out of the program, which includes a complimentary lesson. Discounts are available for USCF members, advance registrants and siblings.
Depending on the program’s success and popularity in the coming weeks, the club may become a permanent weekly event for young chess enthusiasts.
