Global Conversation Series: Understanding Muslim Societies

As images of Muslim suicide bombers and Taliban fighters bombard American viewers on news media outlets, many people in the Western world have developed negative perceptions of Muslim societies and the Islamic faith. Importantly, these images do not accurately portray the majority of Muslim societies and the basic tenets of Islam. As Muslims represent religious minorities throughout Europe and the United States, it remains important to venture past the stereotypes to better understand today’s Muslim societies. A greater understanding of Muslim societies will debunk misconceptions, changes perceptions on Muslims within our local communities, and allow for greater cross cultural co-existence across the world.

Ellen Lust, Professor at Yale University, will be presenting and Heidi Hadsell, President of Hartford Seminary and Professor of Social Ethics, will be moderating.
