Hartford Stands As One: A Day Against Bullying

On Saturday, Sept. 28, the University of Hartford community will take a stand against bullying.

Psi Chi, the International
Honor Society in Psychology chapter at the University of Hartford, is
hosting a day-long event promoting bullying prevention and a positive
climate at "Hartford Stands as One: A Day Against Bullying." The event will take place in the Konover Great Room and is open to the University of Hartford community and the general public.

The documentary film Bully will be screened at 11 a.m. This
film brings awareness to a major issue that has plagued school systems
and people of all backgrounds, ages, and ethnicities. Following the film we will have a lunch break and time to discuss initial reactions to the film.

At 1:30 p.m., Dr. Jo Ann Freiberg,
a Connecticut state consultant who works to make school systems safe
and nurturing environments, will talk about "bullymania," and creating
positive climates in schools.

At 2:30 p.m., we are honored to have David Long as our keynote speaker. Mr. Long is featured in the film Bully, and
he will tell his personal story and share how bullying took the life of
his son, Tyler. Mr. Long will be here on behalf of his organization,
"Everything Starts With 1," whose vision is "that all children have the
opportunity to participate in an educational environment free from
bullying, discrimination, and harassment."
