History Happened on the River: The Significance of the Farmington River throughout the Centuries

about the history of the Farmington River and its significance to the
Farmington Valley with Eileen Fielding, Executive Director of the Farmington
River Watershed Association. Dr. Fielding will show how the river affected
early settlement, agriculture, the growth of greater Hartford, the rise of the
recreation industry and other regional historic events. Learn how the industrial
revolution and subsequent pollution affected the river, and the story of native
fish and wildlife as it has unfolded over the centuries. Presented by Historic Sites
of Connecticut’s Farmington Valley, part of the Farmington Valley Visitors
Association, a non-profit corporation that serves as a resource for residents
and promotes the Farmington Valley to individuals and businesses wishing to
relocate to the area, and to tourists wishing to experience all that the
Farmington Valley has to offer. Lecture fee is $5; registration not required.
