Community Corner

Listening, Laughing, and Local “Celebrities” at the Mandell JCC’s 4th Annual Great Children’s Read; Sunday, November 10, 2013

Listen and laugh with local “celebrity” guest readers and
storytellers at the Mandell JCC’s 4th Annual Great Children’s Read,
on Sunday, November 10, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Mandell JCC,
Zachs Campus, 335 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford, CT. This event is free and
open to the community, and is presented by the Mandell JCC Jewish Book
Festival, the Family Room Parenting Center, and PJ Library, and is part of
Jewish Book Week.

The Great Children’s Read will include a family sing-along,
special appearances by University of Hartford Women’s Hawks Basketball players,
crafts, snacks, and a book sale. Additionally, local personalities—including
Doug Glanville (former professional baseball player, author, and ESPN
personality on Baseball Tonight), JCC Staff Superstars, and Fox CT Traffic
Reporter, Rachel Lutzker—will read beloved children’s classics and PJ Library
favorites aloud to young children and their families. The Mandell JCC will also be collecting gently used children's books
(especially for ages 0-3) for Read To Grow's literacy program, benefiting
growing children in communities who don't have immediate access to books in
their homes or neighborhoods. Read to Grow's demand for these free books has
increased in the last year and the need for more books is urgent.
