Mama

Local
artist, Erin Zaffis, makes her art debut with this intriguing,
multimedia sculpture exhibit featuring 10 modified, maternity
mannequins. Erin, a mother of 3 who has been a Southbury resident most
of her life, has been a maternity nurse for over 11 years and currently
works at The Connecticut Childbirth and Women's Center in Danbury CT.
Her own experience as a mother coupled with caring for women through
their childbearing experience is what inspired the project. Many of the
sculptures are abstract and symbolic/archetypal in nature. Out of a deep
curiosity and desire to continue exploring these ideas, Erin decided to
make the sculptures her Masters Thesis project, required to
earn her Master of Arts in Health and Healing from The Graduate
Institute in Bethany CT. Through a fundraising campaign on
kicksarter.com to aid in cost of making the sculptures, the project was
promoted and evolved into a gallery exhibition, set to open for one
night only, 6-9pm
July 27th, 2013 at Hartford ArtSpace Gallery, 555 Asylum St in Hartford
CT. A few collaborative pieces and other works will also be featured,
including art by Dave Brooker, Brett Bucciarelli, Robb Cyr Photography
and MW Photography. Admission is free. You can find out more information on the project by
