Mandell JCC Hartford Jewish Film Festival Presents: NEXT YEAR JERUSALEM and JERUSALEM OF STEEL

NEXT YEAR JERUSALEM (USA, 2013, 62 minutes, English and Hebrew with English subtitles)Director: David Gaynes 2:00 PM Hartford Premiere In November 2011, eight intrepid senior residents of Fairfield Connecticut’s Jewish Home for the Elderly - average age 91- embarked on their last great adventure, a ten day pilgrimage to Israel. Their story is told by Weston CT native documentarian David Gaynes, who captured the preparations for the trip, their life-changing Israel experience and their return to Connecticut. Some of the travelers – both Jews and Christians - made the trip using wheelchairs and walkers, overcoming physical and emotional challenges. Next Year Jerusalem is a poetic exploration of faith and life, hope and fear, travel and memory in life’s final chapter.Reel Talk immediately following film features invited guest speakers David Gaynes, film Director; trip participants and film subjects, moderated by Denis Geary, Executive Director of the Jewish Association for Community Living. A dessert reception will follow.

Jerusalem of Steel (Israel, 2005, 4 minutes, animation)Director: Sigalit Lifshitz New England Premiere This original animated short film about robots inhabiting the Old City of Jerusalem was created for the Mabatim project of the Jerusalem Film Festival, spotlighting emerging Israeli filmmakers, animators, lighting and video designers.
