Mandell JCC’s The Grand Circle inspires grandparents to nurture the Jewish identities of their grandchildren. Sunday, March 23, 2014

Grandparents
love to share family traditions and holiday customs, but preserving those
traditions can be a challenge when the grandkids are being raised in an
interfaith home. The Grandparents Circle, a new, free program beginning March
23, 2014 at Congregation Kol Haverim, 1079 Hebron Avenue, Glastonbury and offered
by the Mandell JCC, will help Jewish grandparents of intermarried children pass
their heritage on to the next generation.

In this
supportive environment facilitated by Betsy Marantz, MAJE, MAJCS, a professional Jewish Educator,
participants will learn techniques for listening and talking with their adult
children, incorporating Judaism into everyday conversations, and creating
Jewish memories for their grandchildren. The Grandparents Circle is
a program developed by the Jewish Outreach Institute, is funded locally by the
Jewish Community Foundation and is co-sponsored by Congregation Kol Haverim and
the Mandell JCC.

Past participants highly recommend the program stating, “We
are very grateful to have found this program – it’s had a very positive
influence on our family” while others stress the understanding it brings to
their families saying, “This really raised my awareness of how I can expose my
grandchildren to Jewish culture and traditions.  It also opened my eyes to
see how my daughter is presenting Judaism in her interfaith family.”
