“Russia Meets America” at the West Hartford Symphony Orchestra

“Russia Meets America” at the West Hartford Symphony Orchestra’s twelfth season opener, Sunday Oct. 27th, 2013, 3:00 p.m., at the Roberts Theater on the campus of Kingswood Oxford School, West Hartford.

Featured composers include Vassili Kalinnikov, Mikhail Ippolitov-Ivanov, Leonard Bernstein, and Aaron Copland. Soloists are violinist Carin Weisner (WHSO Concertmaster), performing Sergei Rachmaninoff’s “Vocalise,” and Kingswood Oxford senior, pianist Samuel Wiseman, performing Richard Addinsell’s “Warsaw Concerto.” Special guest is talk-show host Brad Davis, narrating the “Gettysburg Address,” (by WHSO Music Director Richard Chiarappa) accompanied by the WHSO in celebration of the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s epochal speech.

“Our twelfth season is already proving to be an exciting one!” said Richard Chiarappa. “I think we have an interesting and timely program, in light of current events.”
